(AP) ? JaVale McGee went out with the attitude that Game 5 was the last game of his life. The other Denver Nuggets played their own mental games, some drawing inspiration from Lakers center Andrew Bynum’s comment about how closeout playoff games can sometimes be easy.

The Nuggets went deep into their motivational wells for an impressive win at Staples Center, and not even Kobe Bryant could prevent the Lakers from getting on a plane back to Denver.

Andre Miller scored 24 points, including two free throws with 12.8 seconds left, and Denver survived Bryant’s late scoring barrage in a 43-point performance, avoiding playoff elimination with a 102-99 victory over Los Angeles on Tuesday night and trimming the Lakers’ series lead to 3-2.

McGee had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Nuggets, who barely survived a frenetic finish. Denver had a 15-point lead midway through the fourth quarter against the lifeless Lakers, but Bryant engineered a swift comeback before his final three shots missed.

“I was just glad we didn’t go to overtime,” Miller said. “There was too much energy in the building. A veteran team like that will fight their way back, and they know how to finish games. We found a way to contain them.”

Bryant scored 12 points over the final 4:45, hitting four 3-pointers that trimmed the Nuggets’ lead to 98-96 with 59 seconds left. Bryant then missed a potential tying 5-footer and a 3-pointer, but Denver missed two of four free throws before Ramon Sessions hit a 3-pointer with 12.8 seconds left, trimming the Nuggets’ lead to one point.

Los Angeles had two more chances to tie after the veteran Miller’s free throws, but Bryant and Sessions missed 3-pointers near the buzzer.

“It definitely means a lot, but we’re still down, and we still have games to win ? in a row, at that,” said McGee, who had the best game of his first career playoff series. “It’s really hard to stop Kobe, but if we stop the bigs, then Kobe can do what he does, and we’ll have a really good chance to win.”

Game 6 is Thursday night in Denver. The third-seeded Lakers are one win from a second-round date with Oklahoma City, but they’ve still got work to do.

Coach George Karl gratefully fed Bynum’s offhanded post-practice comment to his players, and they played like a team that isn’t going anywhere.

“I’ve been blessed to win a few series, and it’s the hardest thing in the world to win the fourth game,” Karl said. “I don’t care who you’re playing, it’s hard. … His feeling on closeouts is a little different than mine.”

McGee threw down a mind-boggling array of dunks and converted alley-oop passes while dominating the Lakers’ superstar duo of 7-footers. McGee dunked on a 60-foot alley-oop pass from Miller early in the fourth quarter, and he stared down the Lakers’ fans after dunking while getting fouled with 6:35 to play.

Arron Afflalo scored a career playoff-high 19 points and Danilo Gallinari added 14 for the Nuggets, while rookie Kenneth Faried had 10 points and nine rebounds. Miller scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and 17 in the second half, calmly leading his young teammates to the win.

The Nuggets still must win two games to advance to the second round for just the second time in nine years, but they have already accomplished something rare by winning Game 5. Los Angeles had closed out a playoff series on the first try in 11 of its previous 12 opportunities, and the Lakers won 12 of their last 13 closeout games under departed coach Phil Jackson.

“That’s true, closeouts can be easy,” Bryant said. “Tonight wasn’t one of those nights. … Did it pump them up? Probably. You never want to give anybody bulletin board material, but if you’re going to be a champion, you’ve got to play through things like that.”

Bynum had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who lost a closeout playoff game at home for the first time since May 4, 2006, against Phoenix.

The Lakers thought they had taken control of the series with a final-minute rally to win a tight Game 4, but the Nuggets have outplayed the third-seeded Lakers for long stretches of the series. Denver was sharper and more determined from the opening tip in Game 5, while the Lakers played a disorganized, disinterested 3? quarters until the late rally.

The Lakers never trailed in the first two games of the series, but they never led in Game 5 after their very first basket made it 2-0. Denver enforced its preferred speedy tempo on the walk-it-up Lakers for long stretches, repeatedly beating the Lakers back with fast breaks and sharp passes.

“They were daring us to take outside shots,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said. “We were getting shots we couldn’t make. But to me, that’s not the difference in the game. There were so many things we could have done to win this ballgame. … I’m more disappointed in our defense and our lack of protecting the paint.”

Pau Gasol had just nine points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, while Matt Barnes scored 11 points.

The Lakers failed to complete their first playoff series victory under Brown exactly one year after Dallas swept the Lakers in the second round of last year’s postseason, ending 11-time NBA champion coach Jackson’s career ? for now, anyway.

Los Angeles’ loss means starting forward Metta World Peace will finish his seven-game suspension during the first round. World Peace was banned for viciously elbowing Oklahoma City’s James Harden in the Lakers’ penultimate regular-season game.

Notes: Before the game, Brown chuckled mirthlessly at the conspiracy theory suggesting the Lakers might tank Game 5 to burn off World Peace’s suspension before facing Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. … Miller was hit with a technical foul in the second quarter after a hard foul on Bynum, who got a T of his own in the third quarter for shoving Faried after a basket. … Afflalo finally awoke offensively after averaging just nine points in the first four games of the series. … Fans near courtside included Larry David, British boxer Amir Khan and comedian Harland Williams.

Threats Prevention High on the e-Business Security Conference's …

2131Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, May 9, 2012: I(TS)2, a Saudi-based specialized IT Security company, announced that several high profile global IT security experts had come together to address various aspects of information security, threats and concerns faced by businesses in Saudi Arabia at the second e-Business Security Conference 2012 held in Riyadh and Jeddah on May 6, 2012 and May 8, 2012 respectively. With its focus being ?Prevention of Modern Threats?, the conference highlighted the latest cyber security threats? and addressed what organizations could do to prevent these threats. Global security experts also shared their knowledge and expertise in preventing hacking on the web application layer as well as securing networks and databases.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dimitrios Petropoulos, CEO of I(TS)2 said, ?Saudi is one of the fastest growing countries in the region in terms of information and communications technology spending, which reached US$7.2 billion in 2010 and is expected to touch US$12.2 billion in 2015 according to the CITC IT Report 2010. Even though currently Saudi is not ranked amongst the top countries in the adoption of cyber security, it is surely witnessing a rapid increase in the number of businesses investing in the latest technologies to combat internal and external threats. To increase awareness of modern threats and to share insights and global case studies with our customers, we decided to host the second edition of e-Business Security Conference once this year. The event was a success as we had some of the best security experts sharing their global experiences, best practices and case studies with local Saudi businesses.?

Global security solutions companies such as Guidance Software, SafeNet, Tripwire and Websense participated at the event as partners. IT security experts such as Jonathan Hawes of AKJ Associates, Dennis Oommen of Guidance Software, S?bastien Pavie of SafeNet, Jason Clark of Tripwire, Roy Duckles of Tripwire and Amjad Khader of Websense to name a few shared their experiences on various aspects of cyber security at the conference. The event also brought together customers from all industry sectors including Government, Finance, Education, Semi-Government, Services, and Utilities.?

?Events such as e-Business Security Conference 2012 are vital in helping companies understand what shifts are happening in the threat landscape, and therefore where they need to realign their project objectives and methods to achieve the results they desire. It is also a great forum to get different perspectives as to how to deal with modern threats. Very often unorthodox approaches are successful in thwarting newer generation threats,? said Mr.Dennis Oommen, Sr. Regional General Manager, Guidance Software, Inc.?

?Whilst the need for well laid out strategy and ensuring IT security policies is paramount, the truth is that even though many organisations have the right strategies in place, they lack and will continue to lack in the area of skilled talent to manage the day to day operations surrounding these policies. One possible approach to adopt is to assume the organization will be massively compromised and work from there. Another critical factor is that companies are increasingly becoming custodians of more and more customers? information,? Mr. Oommen added.

At the conference, security experts pointed out that even though the Middle East region faces the very same cyber threats that the rest of the developed world faces, it has fared much better than most other regions economically and hence it is becoming a ?natural? target for commercially motivated cybercrime. The recent social upheavals have only brought to the surface the potential power of the connected populace. Highly sophisticated and successful APT?s such as Stuxnet have gained prominence because of this region. A combination of such factors will inevitably lead to an exponential escalation of the risk associated with such internal and external threats.

?Nearly all data-stealing attacks today involve the web and/or e-mail. And many increasingly use social engineering to take advantage of the human element as the weakest link. Since the current generation of attackers use multiple data points and threat vectors to target their victims, only a solution that understands the entire threat lifecycle and combines data from each phase can protect against them. Traditional defenses just aren?t working any more. Organizations need real-time defences with multiple detection points that deeply analyze both the inbound content of each website and email as well as the outbound transmission of sensitive data,? said Stephen Grey, Websense Regional Director, Middle East.

According to Mr. Sebastien Pavie, Director of SafeNet Middle East more and more business are moving to online trading and internet banking thus increasing the requirement for proper security compliance and solutions. ?In 2011, data breaches grew exponentially across the world as well as in the Middle East, 45% of which involved the theft of authentication credentials, an alarming figure. Unfortunately a large number of companies still rely on username and password to give access to their end-users, and this information is not difficult for hackers to get. In fact 67% of data thefts were perpetrated through guessable credentials.?

?The good news is that cyber security is now appearing more and more on the boardroom agenda. We reckon that private cloud, network upgrade and DR projects in both the government and commercial sectors will keep driving the demand for High Speed Encryption. New eGovernment and eBanking service initiatives spreading fast across the region are also definitely contributing to such demand. Cloud-deployment offers an array of significant benefits to enterprise ranging from improved IT resource management to more effective strategic and operational initiatives. However, without the ability to safeguard virtually-deployed data assets these benefits could easily turn into liabilities.? Mr. Pavie concluded.

Kristen Stewart Wants To Be A ‘Better Person’ Like Snow White

‘She’s truly bleeding for other people,’ ‘Snow White and the Hunstman’ star says on ‘MTV First’ about her character.

Kristen Stewart puts her inner action star on full display as the butt-kicking Snow White in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” But, it’s her vulnerability that Stewart related to most with the chainmail-wearing princess.

“I think that I related to Snowy because … I love her,” she laughed to MTV News during “MTV First: Snow White and the Hunstman” on Tuesday night. “She feels such strong things and sort of can’t say exactly why she feels those things … and I can completely relate to that and I also can relate to feeling arrogant about it a little bit. Sort of like ‘It’s not about being who you are; it’s sort of not saying what everyone thinks I’m going to say because I’m uncomfortable’ … She’s like very instinctive and sort of awesome in that way.”

Having already brought to life one literary heroine playing “Twilight” leading lady Bella Swan, she explained that she didn’t feel pressure to have to tackle Snow White, mostly because there was enough room for her to interrupt the character the way she felt was natural.

“I mean she’s such a child in the beginning and has such a strong sense of self in a way that sort of isn’t normal, like supernaturally almost,” she said. “She’s got this connection to the Earth and to her people that makes her like so truly empathetic and not sympathetic.

“She’s not putting herself in a position and going, ‘Oh, how horrible would that be for me.’ She’s truly bleeding for other people,” she said. “It’s a different feeling. It’s something I want to get to if I can be a better person. She’s a great girl. She’s a good person.”

“Snow White and the Huntsman,” which also stars Charlize Theron (who plays the evil queen Ravenna), Chris Hemsworth (The Huntsman) and Sam Claflin (the charming Prince William), hits theaters June 1.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Nate Diaz will get next title shot after UFC on Fox 3 win

Nate Diaz’s next opponent is set. After his dominating win over Jim Miller on Saturday night, MMA Junkie reports that Diaz will get the next shot at the UFC lightweight belt.

LG's Google TV-enabled sets coming to US end of May

LG revealed two Google-loaded TVs at CES, but never gave us prices or told us when these LED models might dangle their skinny bezels in stores. In briefings at Google last week, we heard that the 47-incher (47G2) and 55-incher (55G2) would sell for $1699 and $2299 respectively — although Amazon already has them listed significantly cheaper than that. Now, to complete the jigsaw, Reuters has quoted LG exec Ro Seogho as saying that these Google TVs will ship in the US from May 21st. In the meantime, check out our hands-on from Las Vegas, because that new QWERTY-equipped Magic Motion remote is especially enticing.
